Behind the Design Tour of NZICC

Start the week with learning at a Behind the Design tour of the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), a significant new high-value asset shaping Auckland’s events, hospitality and workplace landscape.

Attendees will hear directly from the client-side operators and asset stakeholders responsible for bringing this project from concept to execution. The full project journey; from initial vision and conception through design, delivery challenges, the well-documented fire and resulting delays, through to final execution and operational readiness. This is a rare opportunity to understand the strategic thinking, resilience and decision-making behind a nationally significant project.

Guest Speakers:

Sarah Ballantyne – Project Director - NZICC and Horizon Hotel

Since 2014, Sarah has led the delivery of one of New Zealand’s most complex and high-profile urban projects, overseeing financial performance, risk, procurement, design, construction and stakeholder engagement. She has played a key role in shaping NZICC’s operational vision, bridging venue strategy, customer experience and precinct integration to ensure the development delivers both commercial impact and a world-class visitor experience. Sarah brings deep client-side property and development expertise, offering valuable insight into large-scale project governance, delivery complexity and the commercial realities of major developments.

Todd Berry – Development Manager - NZICC

As Development Manager on the NZICC since 2016, Todd has been instrumental in delivering New Zealand’s landmark convention centre. With a background in architecture and project management, he has overseen design and construction, ensuring the project meets strategic objectives, stakeholder expectations, and operational goals. Todd’s expertise in large-scale project delivery has been invaluable in guiding the day-to-day processes that drive the successful completion of such a complex development on behalf of the client.
